The National Dahlia Society Show (2011)

The Dahlia is unique amongst flowers with such a wide range of form, size and colour, from the two inch globe of the pompom to the massive 18 inch diameter giants. Dahlias flower in the garden from July until the early frosts in November producing a riot of colour which can be cut and will grow again.

Dahlias are grown and exhibited around the world but the National Dahlia Society is the oldest, established in 1881 and holds the largest and most varied of the National Shows. Combinations of these wonderful flowers will be shown by exhibitors and Societies, to produce spectacular exhibits of perfection within over 150 classes, each different and all demonstrating the many uses of this special flower.

However, this is not just a show for visitors to be dazzled but also a place to pick up advice from Society members. This popular exhibition of stunning flowers inspires many a visitor to rush home and start growing them for themselves to achieve spectacular colour in their autumn garden.The blooms not used by the exhibitors will also be for sale for those who want to admire their beauty at home.
